The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in Michigan has announced that GEOFFREY BARNES will assume the role of president beginning July 1, 2019. Current President Richard Hendricks will remain on the orchestra’s board of directors. Barnes is a cardiovascular physician and researcher at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Barnes and his husband, Grant, have been Ann Arbor Symphony subscribers since 2012; after that first season, Barnes was asked to become a member of the orchestra’s marketing committee. He joined the board in 2015 and was elected vice president of marketing in 2016. In 2017, Barnes was elected first vice president. Barnes plans to explore opportunities to reach young professionals and grow that segment of the Ann Arbor Symphony’s audience and board, drawing from a wide range of professional backgrounds and ages.
