“The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony has announced the 2019-20 season, which will celebrate its 90th anniversary, and the season will feature everything from international guest artists to a New Year’s Eve celebration concert and after-party,” reports Abby Turpin last Wednesday (5/1) at KWWL Television (Waterloo, IA). “Led by … Artistic Director and Conductor Jason Weinberger, the season will begin … with Florence Price’s Concert Overture No.1 … Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with pianist Nachito Herrera.” Also planned during the season are Mozart’s Serenade in B-flat Major (“Gran Partita”) featuring the ensemble’s wind players; Replicas for piano and orchestra with pianist Ashlee Mack, by composer James Romig, a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Music; a program of music by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn; “Jane in Concert,” a concert featuring music by Philip Glass accompanying a live screening of the 2017 National Geographic documentary about conservationist Jane Goodall; and a program featuring music by Joan Tower, including her Red Maple for bassoon and string orchestra, featuring bassoonist Cayla Bellamy.
