On May 12, Ken-David Masur will conduct the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Third Coast Percussion in the world premiere of Meander, Spiral, Explode for percussion quartet and orchestra by Christopher Cerrone. The Civic Orchestra of Chicago is the advanced training ensemble of the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Also on the program at the Chicago Symphony Center will be Debussy’s La mer and Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 (“Spring”). Meander, Spiral, Explode, inspired by Jane Alison’s 2019 book of the same title, was co-commissioned by the Civic Orchestra and the Oregon-based Britt Festival Orchestra. The Britt Festival Orchestra will perform Meander, Spiral, Explode on July 26, led by Teddy Abrams.
