DEBORAH M. FRETZ has been elected chair of the board of trustees at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, effective June 1, 2019. She will succeed Mark E. Rubenstein. A Curtis trustee since 2005, Fretz served as treasurer from 2009 to 2016 and as vice chair from 2016 to 2019. She has also held leadership roles on the board’s finance, facilities, and executive committees. A resident of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, Fretz has contributed to fundraising endeavors as co-chair of the 90th Anniversary Gala and through gifts to endow the Gary and Naomi Graffman Scholarship Fund. Fretz had a three-decade career at the Sun Oil Company, spending her final ten years as president and CEO of Sunoco Logistics Partners. In addition to Curtis, she is chair of the board at Project H.O.M.E., and was a trustee of the Foundation of the Free Library of Philadelphia and a board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Fretz holds a bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry from Butler University; a master of business administration from Temple University’s Fox School of Business; and completed the Senior Executive Program at the Sloan School at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
