The Utah Symphony has appointed CONNER GRAY COVINGTON as principal conductor of its Deer Valley Music Festival for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He is scheduled to conduct nine concerts in the 2019 festival, which runs June 29-August 10. In addition, Covington is the Utah Symphony’s associate conductor. He was named the orchestra’s assistant conductor in September 2017 and associate conductor in September 2018. He previously served as the Rita E. Hauser Conducting Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, assistant conductor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and music director of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program. Along with Deer Valley Music Festival performances, Covington conducts nearly 100 Utah Symphony concerts each season including education and community outreach, classical, pops, films, and family concerts. His contract goes through the 2019-20 season. Awards and honors include 2019, 2017 and 2014 Career Assistance Awards from the Solti Foundation U.S.; being invited to the 2015 Pacific Music Festival Conducting Academy in Japan; and participating in the League of American Orchestras’ 2016 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview. The Deer Valley Music Festival is the Utah Symphony’s summer home in Park City, Utah.
