Astral, the Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization that specializes in developing the early careers of classical musicians, has announced six winners of its 2019 National Auditions. They are pianists Christopher Goodpasture and Saetbyeol Kim, cellist Alexander Hersh, oboist Mitchell Kuhn, soprano Alexandra Nowakowski, and domra/mandolin player Ekaterina Skliar. They will perform at the 2019 Astral National Auditions Winners Concert at Philadelphia’s Stotesbury Mansion on October 16, 2019. This year, Astral auditioned voice, strings, small chamber ensembles, piano, woodwinds, and brass candidates for placement in its program of approximately 25 musicians. The National Auditions competitive process includes an application round and live auditions in Philadelphia before an independent panel of musicians, managers, conductors, and presenters from across the U.S., which recommends candidates for the final interview round.
