New Jersey’s Wharton Institute for the Performing arts has appointed PETER H. GISTELINCK executive director, effective July 1, 2019. Located in Berkeley Heights, New Providence, and Paterson, New Jersey, Wharton is a non-profit performing-arts education center and the parent organization of the New Jersey Youth Symphony, which serves 500 students. Gistelinck was president and CEO of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra from 2014 to 2019, and executive director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia from 2006 to 2014. Before immigrating to the United States in 2006, Gistelinck was director of sales and marketing and co-artistic director for the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra and general manager of business affairs at Le Concert Spirituel in Paris. Gistelinck is also a music producer, composer, and arranger. He served as professor of composition, arranging, and orchestration at the Royal Music Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium and has lectured at U.S. universities. Gistelinck holds degrees in music theory and history, composition, orchestration, and arranging from the Royal Music Conservatory in Belgium and a BA in history of arts and MA in musicology from the State University in Ghent, Belgium. Helen Cha-Pyo is artistic director of the Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts.
