The San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra is in the midst of a seventeen-day tour of Europe, led by Christian Reif, the San Francisco Symphony’s resident conductor and music director of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. The tour launched in Denmark at the Odense Koncerthus on June 23 and Copenhagen’s Tivoli Concert Hall on June 24, with stops at Hamburg Germany’s Elbphilharmonie, Berlin’s Philharmonie, and the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria, before concluding on July 4 at the Margaret Island open-air stage in Budapest, Hungary. Violinist Nicola Benedetti is performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the orchestra through most of the tour, with violinist Karen Gomyo performing the same concerto with the orchestra in Copenhagen on June 24. Tour repertoire also includes Prelude No. 1 from Detlev Glanert’s Three American Preludes and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1.
