VLAD VIZIREANU has been appointed music director of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony in Galesburg, Illinois. Vizireanu has worked with the Tonhalle-Orchester, Lucerne Festival Strings, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Castleton Festival Orchestra, New World Symphony, Manhattan School of Music Symphony, and has served as cover conductor for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Sarasota Orchestra, among others. He debuted with the London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Centre as the second prizewinner in the 2016 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, and he led the Danish National Symphony Orchestra at the 2018 Malko Competition and the Bamberg Symphony at the 2016 Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition. In 2013, he was awarded second prize at the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition, where he debuted in L’Auditori hall in Barcelona. Vizireanu studied with and served as assistant to conductors including Bernard Haitink, Kurt Masur, David Zinman, Michael Tilson Thomas, Neeme Jarvi, and Lorin Maazel. Vizireanu’s post at the Knox-Galesburg Symphony began in July 2019, and programming for the 2019-20 season will be announced soon.
