The Columbus Symphony has announced a new multi-year initiative that aims to raise the orchestra’s profile and deepen its level of community engagement in Columbus and the central Ohio region. The Putting the Star in Columbus initiative has three components: connecting the orchestra to the community through civic priorities such as CSO Cares, in which the orchestra will support area service organizations and schools by partnering with constituencies, students, and staffs; advancing Columbus as a destination and place to live and work by engaging the city in the orchestra’s music and mission; and bringing more international guest artists to Columbus while continuing to spotlight local artists and musicians. The orchestra states that its programs generate more than $14 million in economic impact each year, bringing audiences to downtown Columbus and drawing international attention to the city. In the past decade, Columbus has experienced growth in population, income, and housing prices.
