The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, based in Little Rock, has completed its 2018-19 fiscal year with a small surplus, representing the tenth consecutive year it has done so. During the past decade, the orchestra has increased its annual operating budget from $2.8 million to $3.5 million. During the same period, the orchestra nearly doubled its endowment from $4 million to $7.6 million, paid off its accumulated deficit, launched the new Sturgis Music Academy, restored full-time and part-time musician pay and issued cost-of-living increases, renovated the Robinson Center, added a new neighborhood concert series, and commissioned six new works, including a commission of Christopher Theofanidis by orchestra musicians in honor of the orchestra’s board of directors. Christina Littlejohn is the orchestra’s chief executive officer.
