The Mobile Symphony in Alabama has announced two appointments: IVÁN DEL PRADO as music director of the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra, and DANIELA PARDO as education director of the Mobile Symphony.

Iván del Prado begins as music director of the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra this season. Prior to moving to the U.S. from his native Cuba, del Prado was principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, artistic and music director of the Gran Teatro de La Habana Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Baja California Orchestra, and founder and general director of the Chamber Orchestra of Havana. Education has been a focus of his career: he founded the Cuba National Youth Orchestras, and most recently was an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Mississippi and artistic director of the Premier Orchestral Institute, a summer program for string players in Mississippi. He has offered courses in orchestral conducting and musical interpretation in Latin America, Europe, and the U.S. Del Prado graduated from the Havana’s Instituto Superior de Arte, where he earned a violin and viola professional diploma and a bachelor’s degree in orchestral conducting. He received a D.M.A from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Daniela Pardo joins the Mobile Symphony as education director in the summer of 2019. She is a teacher in Mobile and Baldwin counties, a violist in several regional orchestras and festivals, and an administrator and music contractor. Pardo’s musical experience includes fifteen years with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra in Venezuela’s El Sistema, where she also was a teacher and chamber musician. In 2000, she moved to Milwaukee to pursue a master’s degree in music. She was chair of the string department at the Wisconsin Conservatory for eight years and founded the Suzuki program there. While serving as an adjunct music professor at William Carey University in Mississippi, she created and directed the William Carey Suzuki Institute and a string music-camp program.
