RADU PAPONIU has been promoted from assistant to associate conductor of Florida’s Naples Philharmonic. Since his appointment as assistant conductor in 2017, he has led 38 different classical, pops, dance and education programs. Paponiu recently completed a master of music degree in orchestral conducting at Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music. While in Boston, he was also conductor apprentice with the Handel and Haydn Society, assisting Harry Christophers and Richard Egarr. Paponiu spent two summers studying conducting at the American Academy of Conducting in Aspen, Colorado. Paponiu also holds bachelor of music and artist diploma degrees in violin performance from the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles. Paponiu has guest conducted the North Carolina Symphony, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, and the Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra, and participated in a conducting workshop with the New World Symphony. He has served on the conducting faculty for the Juilliard School Pre-College Division in New York, and was cover conductor for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, and Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
