“The University of North Carolina School of the Arts has hired Tony Woodcock, former president of the New England Conservatory, onetime CEO at a number of orchestras, as interim dean of the School of Music,” writes Susan Elliott in Wednesday’s (8/7) Musical America (subscription required). “He succeeds Brian Cole for the nonce; Cole was named interim chancellor of UNCSA last month. Interim Provost Karin Peterson announced Woodcock’s appointment, effective August 1. Woodcock, a Brit, left NEC after eight years in the job in 2015; he has been consulting for higher education and the performing arts ever since; one of his clients was/is UNCSA. He’s also been a visiting professor for social entrepreneurship at the recently opened Berklee College of Music’s Valencia campus and Reina Sofia School of Music in Madrid. Peterson said Woodcock had been assisting the School of Music in the areas of fundraising, recruitment and organizational effectiveness. ”
