Ohio’s Toledo Symphony has received “its first-ever source of direct concert underwriting for the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestra,” writes Wayne F. Anthony in Wednesday’s (8/21) Toledo Blade (Ohio). The gift from Joseph and Judith Conda of Perrysburg, Ohio “will cover the entire 2019-20 season of the ensemble and will allow its four concerts to be offered free…. Included are three concerts held at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Peristyle, which feature the one side-by-side performance of TSO musicians playing alongside the youth, and the season finale Pops Concert … at Bowling Green State University. ‘We applaud Joseph and Judith for making this extraordinary investment in the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras and for making it possible for audiences to experience these wonderful concerts for free,’ Zak Vassar, President & CEO of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, said…. In making their gift, the Condas said: “In our view, the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestra Program aligns with our passion toward helping youth navigate their life plans. We believe that involvement with music in this manner enhances the development of self-reflection, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.’ ”
