The Chicago Sinfonietta will perform the score of Jordan Peele’s 2017 suspense/horror film Get Out on September 21 led by Michael Abels, who composed the film’s music, as the movie is screened at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre. The event is co-presented by the Auditorium’s American Music Series. The score also features songs, some sung in Swahili, including “Sikiliza Kwa Wahenga” and “Run, Rabbit, Run,” and Abels will lead the Sinfonietta plus a five-person choir in the performance. The Chicago Sinfonietta has performed Abels’s music going back almost two decades; it recorded Abels’s composition Global Warming on a 2000 album entitled African Heritage Symphony Series No. 3 led by Paul Freeman, the orchestra’s founding music director. Mei-Ann Chen is the current music director of the Chicago Sinfonietta.
