On September 20 at Idaho State University’s Jensen Concert Hall, the Idaho State-Civic Symphony will open its 2019-20 season with “Americana Stories,” a program featuring composers inspired by the American experience and celebrating the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. Julie Sorensen, the orchestra’s artistic director, will conduct the concert, which will feature Zhou Tian’s Transcend, a new work commemorating the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, a co-commission among thirteen American orchestras. Also on the program will be Florence Price’s Symphony No. 3 and William Grant Still’s Afro-American Symphony. The concert will be preceded by a tailgate party and barbecue dinner buffet, with live music by Red Hill Junction Jazz.
