The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra has announced seven musician appointments starting with the 2019-20 season. DEREK FENSTERMACHER has been appointed principal tuba; MICHAEL CASIMIR, ANDREW FRANCOIS, and LEONID PLASHINOV-JOHNSON have joined the viola section; JENNIFER HUMPHREYS is now a member of the cello section; and ALECK BELCHER and BRENDAN FITZGERALD have joined as double bass.

Principal Tuba Derek Fenstermacher has been a member of the St. Louis Symphony since January 2019. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Fenstermacher began playing the tuba at age fourteen, and by nineteen he was a featured soloist with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. He received a bachelor of music degree from the University of Alabama. He has since held positions with orchestras in Chattanooga, New Jersey, and Albany. He has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the New World Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Houston Ballet Orchestra, and Alabama Symphony.
