The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra in Texas will begin its 2019-20 season on September 27 with a program featuring tango music with the Italian duo Bandini Chiacchiaretta, conducted by Music Director David Cho. The program at Lubbock Memorial Civic Center will include Leroy Anderson’s Blue Tango and Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires with guitarist Giampolo Bandini and bandoneon player Cesare Chiacchiaretta, on a program that also will feature Sibelius’s Symphony No. 1. Programs in November, January, February, and April will feature repertoire including Gershwin’s An American in Paris, Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis, Grieg’s Piano Concerto with soloist William Westney, Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with soloist Chee-Yun. The Lubbock Symphony also offers a three-concert chamber series, with performances scheduled for November, December, and February, and in October will present “The Music of Led Zeppelin,” with the orchestra joined by a rock band and vocalists.
