The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center launched its 50th-anniversary season with a September 6 PBS broadcast of Odyssey: The Chamber Music Society in Greece, featuring CMS musicians in Athens. The season will include a nine-state U.S. tour and visits to Colombia and China, plus multiple events at Alice Tully Hall and elsewhere at Lincoln Center. A free CMS at 50 exhibition at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts from October 3 to March 7, 2020 features a timeline outlining the history of chamber music from 1650 to today, highlighted by a video installation. The CMS performance season begins on October 15 at Alice Tully Hall with Dvořák’s American Quintet and music by Harry Burleigh, Aaron Copland, and Leonard Bernstein; the concert will be streamed at medici.tv on October 17. A new weekly podcast series “The Phenomenal 50”—launched in August and introduced by co-artistic directors David Finckel and Wu Han—is available at the CMS website and other outlets. Bruce Adolphe and John Corigliano are among contemporary composers represented this season at Chamber Music Society concerts, with a New York premiere of a work by Adolphe and a world premiere by Corigliano.
