“The San Diego Symphony hopes to hit a home run with its first-ever performance at Petco Park’s Park at the Park,” writes George Varga in Wednesday’s (10/9) San Diego Union-Tribune. “To be held Nov. 9 at 3 p.m., the free ‘Concert for San Diego’ is designed to celebrate the orchestra and its new music director, Rafael Payare…. The outdoor concert is being jointly presented by the symphony and the San Diego Padres, who have played all their home games at Petco Park since it opened in 2004…. The Park at the Park abuts the outfield of Petco Park and has been used for rock and electronic music concerts. This year marked the debut of the Park at the Park’s newly constructed Sycuan Stage…. [San Diego Symphony CEO Martha] Gilmer said, ‘The concert will be a showcase for the orchestra and an opportunity for people to realize how fun it is to hear the orchestra.’ … This the second time the orchestra and the Padres have teamed up this year…. The 2019 edition of the symphony’s annual Bayside Summer Nights concert series at Embarcadero Marina Park South included a ‘Play Ball: A Symphonic Celebration of the Padres at 50’ concert.”
