On November 1, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra will perform a concert with soul/rock vocalist Lisa Fischer and her band, Grand Baton, in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center of the Performing Arts. Josephine Lee, president and artistic director of the Chicago Children’s Choir, will guest conduct the program, which will feature PYO’s 130 musicians, between the ages of 14 and 21, onstage with Fischer and Grand Baton. The combined musicians will perform music by Luther Vandross and Tina Turner, plus other rock, soul, and classical selections. Fischer was featured in the Oscar-winning 2013 documentary film 20 Feet from Stardom, and has provided backup vocals for the Rolling Stones and Sting, among other performers. Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s president and music director is Louis Scaglione, who will conduct the organization’s concerts at Philadelphia’s Verizon Hall on November 17, February 23, and June 7.
