“Mario Garcia Durham will step down as president and CEO of The Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) as of April 2020, the end of his current contract,” writes Susan Elliott in Thursday’s (11/7) Musical America (subscription required). “Durham succeeded Sandra Gibson when she left in 2011. Previously he was at the National Endowment for the Arts for seven years as director of artist communities and presenting. APAP reports that he ‘leaves the organization on solid financial footing.’ Durham is credited with raising the profile of APAP’s annual NYC conference in January by partnering with the City’s Office of Media and Entertainment. Durham, APAP’s fifth CEO since its founding in 1957, intends to remain active in the field; he is not retiring. Board Chair Karen A. Fischer said he would be missed, adding ‘APAP is stronger and more innovative, energized, and inclusive because of his leadership.’ A search committee is in formation.”
