Jones, a production of ‘Hamlet’ starring Alex Lawther and appearances by opera stars including the tenor Jonas Kaufmann are among the 2020 season offerings the Park Avenue Armory announced on Tuesday,” writes Joshua Barone in Tuesday’s (11/12) New York Times. “The programming was organized by Pierre Audi, the armory’s artistic director, and opens with his staging of Monteverdi’s ‘Maria Vespers,’ which premiered at the Holland Festival in 2017…. Mr. Jones’s premiere, ‘Deep Blue Sea,’ is scheduled in the Drill Hall April 14-25…. Mr. Jones will perform in the work, made for 100 dancers and including scenic design by the architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro…. Donnacha Dennehy’s opera ‘The Second Violinist,’ written and directed by Enda Walsh, will have its North American premiere Sept. 25-29 … the story of a violinist who, overwhelmed by modern life, finds solace in the Renaissance music of Carlo Gesualdo. Ryan McAdams will conduct. Schubert’s ‘Schwanengesang’ … will receive a staging by Claus Guth Oct. 16-20, performed by the star tenor Mr. Kaufmann…. The Armory’s diverse programming beyond the Drill Hall includes a celebration of the 19th Amendment’s centennial, ‘100 Years | 100 Women.’ ”
