“In its inaugural CreARTE awards, the Perez Family Foundation has designated $2 million to support local cultural endeavors,” writes Jane Wooldridge in Tuesday’s (11/12) Miami Herald (FL). “A total of 23 groups will receive grants of $25,000 to $200,000 over a two-year period in a total $1.82 million in direct awards. The balance of the money will be used to invest in program evaluation and capacity building for grantees…. The awards … were created by Miami real estate developer and philanthropist [Jorge] Perez and his family…. The largest award, $200,000, will go to the Adrienne Arsht Center [for the Performing Arts] for arts education and access over two years. An additional 10 grantees will receive $100,000 each. Awards are designed to support practicing artists, creative spaces and access to local arts and education. Many of the recipient efforts focus on under-served communities… A second round of CreARTE grants will be issued in 2021.” Award recipients include Nu Deco Ensemble, Young Musicians Unite, Miami Music Project, African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, Artists in Residence in Everglades, Miami City Ballet, Miami New Drama, HistoryMiami Museum, and Miami Book Fair at Miami Dade College.
