“Three conductors have been selected as finalists for the Oregon Bach Festival’s new artistic director, who will now run one of the mainstays of the Eugene’s arts community,” writes Jordyn Brown in last Thursday’s (1/23) Register-Guard (Eugene, OR). “The artistic director will lead the vision and creative direction of the festival and be the main festival planner in the wake of the leadership and budget changes announced last year. The University of Oregon, which manages the festival, laid off then-executive director Janelle McCoy, eliminating the position, and reduced the budget by $250,000 in June 2019. The two positions had different responsibilities … said Sabrina Madison-Cannon, the dean of UO’s School of Music and Dance. The artistic director position has been open for a few years now and University of Oregon’s School of Music and Dance announced the finalists this week…. Each of the finalists—Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Craig Hella Johnson and Julian Wachner—would bring a different specialty and style to the festival if selected, said Madison-Cannon…. All of the finalists will conduct at the 2020 festival, and Madison-Cannon said the school will likely select a new director in the following weeks.”
