The musical works to be led by the six conductors participating in the League of American Orchestras’ Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview, April 1-2, 2020 in New Orleans, have been announced. Conductors Bertie Baigent, Tong Chen, Gonzalo Farias, Norman Huynh, Yuwon Kim, and François López-Ferrer will lead the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra over two days of rehearsals, culminating in a free public concert at New Orleans’ Orpheum Theater on April 2. The musical selections are: Haydn, Symphony No. 103 (“Drumroll”); Beethoven, Symphony No. 7; Brahms, Symphony No. 4; Ravel, Pavane pour une infante défunte; Stravinsky, The Firebird Concert Suite (1919); and Jessie Montgomery, Starburst. The League’s Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview provides orchestra search committees, artist managers, and artistic administrators the opportunity observe participants in rehearsal and meet them individually. Since 1995, the Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview has showcased 90 conductors, with more than 50 orchestras making conductor/music director appointments as a direct result. The 2020 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview is made possible by generous grants from the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
