The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s February 29 and March 1 concerts will feature Thomas Adès’s 2008 multimedia concerto In Seven Days: Concerto for Piano with Moving Images, featuring pianist Andrius Žlabys. Interim Artistic Director Geoffrey Robson will conduct the program at the Robinson Center in Little Rock, which also will include Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 7. The Adès concerto, accompanied by an abstract video installation, is in seven movements that musically depict the Biblical creation myth: Chaos–Light–Dark; Separation of the waters into sea and sky; Land–Grass–Trees; Stars–Sun–Moon; Fugue–Creatures of the Sea and Sky; Fugue–Creatures of the Land; and Contemplation. The concerto was originally co-commissioned by London’s Southbank Centre and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
