Posted on: March 26, 2020

On Wednesday, March 25, the 2020 Avery Fisher Career Grants were announced on-air at New York City classical station WQXR and wqxr.org by host Elliott Forrest. This year’s recipients are Stella Chen, violinist; Zlatomir Fung, cellist; and Rachell Ellen Wong, baroque violinist. This marks the first time a baroque violinist has been awarded a Career Grant. Due to expanded precautions to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the event featured previously recorded performances from each of the recipients in lieu of live performances, and short interviews. The program will be rebroadcast by WQXR on Saturday, March 28 and streamed on wqxr.org. The Avery Fisher Career Grants of the Avery Fisher Artist Program give professional assistance and recognition to talented instrumentalists and chamber ensembles judged to have potential for major careers. Each recipient receives an award of $25,000 to be used for career advancement.

Cellist Zlatomir Fung was profiled in Symphony magazine’s Winter 2019 issue, and violinist Stella Chen is profiled in the current issue of Symphony.
