“Despite numerous concert cancellations for the 2019/20 season, the Jacksonville Symphony announced it would continue to provide both full salaries and benefits for musicians and staff for the remainder of the season,” writes Alex Wilson in Wednesday’s (4/22) Jacksonville Business Journal (FL). “Since the COVID-19 pandemic began impacting Northeast Florida, the Symphony has cancelled 16 concerts. Scheduled concerts for May and June have not been cancelled as of yet, although … future mandates from state and city government officials could impact those as well. ‘We are incredibly thankful for the continued support from our donors and our community that has allowed us to keep the salaries and benefits of our musicians and staff unchanged,’ said Steven Libman, president and CEO of the Symphony, in a press release…. The Symphony estimates it could lose up to $500,000 in ticket sales by the end of its fiscal year on June 30. Despite the situation, a combination of donations, cash reserves and the Paycheck Protection Program has allowed the Symphony to continue to operate throughout its season.… Additionally, the Symphony has continued to livestream … pre-recorded … performances [and] content shared by individual musicians … on the Symphony’s Facebook page, Youtube, and its website.”
