“The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association has canceled all CSOA-presented events at Symphony Center and other locations through June 9, the institution announced Friday,” writes Howard Reich in Monday’s (4/27) Chicago Tribune. “These events have been dropped ‘in cooperation with ongoing community-wide efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,’ the CSOA said in a statement. On Thursday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued a stay-at-home order extending through May 30.… Among the canceled performances: CSO subscription concerts … CSO at the Movies: Jurassic Park in Concert … CSO African American Network performance by Jordan Thomas, harp … CSO MusicNOW featuring ‘Sounds from the Future: Musicians of the AACM,’ … conductor Steven Reineke and host Colin Mochrie in ‘The Second City Guide to the Symphony’ … Rossen Milanov conducting the Civic Orchestra of Chicago [and] the Odyssey Quartet Ensemble in ‘Nature’s Beauty’ as part of the Art Institute Chamber Series.” The CSOA announced “Music Ahead,” a matching challenge grant program, “to reduce the significant financial losses for the organization in the 2019/20 season related to the impact of the pandemic, and to sustain life-enriching presentations of classical music for all audiences.” The orchestra is posting online music content at “CSO From Home.”
