The Philly POPS has launched POPS in Schools@HOME, featuring videos, activities, and instructional content posted every week in English and Spanish, with all video content provided by Philly POPS’ musicians, teaching artists, and staff. The virtual classroom is offered free of charge, and continues the work of POPS in Schools that is normally presented during the school year at four elementary schools and eleven high schools. Students and their parents can view instructional videos and download activities that introduce the fundamentals of music, including beginning violin instruction and learning to make percussion instruments at home. Programs are sorted by grade level. The site features audio and video of student musicians who have participated in POPS in Schools, including this semester’s Philly POPS co-op students (Dan McCain, leader and bass, John Polanco, trumpet, and Lonell Johnson, piano), who attend Philadelphia’s University of the Arts and have recorded themselves performing songs that span genres and decades.
