The Las Vegas Philharmonic has announced its 2020-21 season, scheduled to begin on October 16 and 17 with two all-Beethoven programs featuring the Egmont Overture; Symphony Nos. 1, 5, and 8; Romance Nos. 1 and 2 for violin, with soloist Sirena Huang; and the Triple Concerto with soloists Bella Hristova (violin), Joshua Roman (cello), and David Fung (piano), led by guest conductor Carolyn Kuan. In November, Music Director Donato Cabrera will lead a program of music by women composers, featuring Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman and Made in America; Peggy Stuart Coolidge’s Pioneer Dances (1970); Jennifer Higdon’s Loco; Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s American Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, with Mary Elizabeth Bowden as soloist; and Florence Price’s Violin Concerto, with violinist De Ann Letourneau as soloist. Also planned during the season are Handel’s Messiah; a program of music by Duke Ellington, George Antheil, and George Gershwin; Jennifer Higdon’s Violin Concerto featuring Jennifer Cho as soloist; Lili Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps; and a concert featuring the orchestra with cabaret vocalist Meow Meow.
