The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (ROCO) in Texas has announced details of its 2020-21 season, which will open September 26 with a program led by ROCO Artistic Partner Mei-Ann Chen and featuring a new commission by Richard Scofano, who will perform as soloist on the bandoneon. In November, ROCO will perform new works by Anna Clyne, Jonathan Leshnoff, and Marcus Maroney, led by conductor Andrew Litton and featuring ROCO Principal Flute Christina Jennings and Co-Principal Viola Matthew Dane on viola d’amore. Concerts in February and April will feature a commission by Alyssa Morris, ROCO’s 2020-21 composer in residence, based on the children’s book Musicians of the Sun, led by conductor Ward Stare; and a world premiere by Reena Esmail based on Chickasaw poetry, with soprano Kathryn Mueller as soloist, conducted by Brett Mitchell. The final concerts of ROCO’s 2019-20 season were cancelled following recommendations from the CDC and Houston Department of Health, and the orchestra has been posting audio and video of past live performances at its website and YouTube channel.
