Two musicians from the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra perform outdoors as part of the orchestra’s socially distanced concerts.

“How would you like to have a private concert by the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra? Well, it could happen!” writes Anthony Wright in Thursday’s (5/7) 23ABC News (Bakersfield, CA). “The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra is providing the opportunity for musicians to come to your home or business and put on a concert … at least from a distance. ‘This has been a difficult time and people are stressed,’ … shared Holly Arnold, executive director of the Bakersfield Symphony. ‘Not only does this project bring joy to our community, it is also a mechanism to support our musicians who love and miss playing music—many whose main income depended on live performances and teaching music lessons—so it’s a way to help our musicians heal as well. …Many people are signing up to surprise their friend or family member. How wonderful to bring a quartet to your sidewalk to share with your neighbors, or how fun to send a tuba or trumpet player to surprise your friend with Happy Birthday!’ The mini-concerts start at $35 and can be customized.” The orchestra’s website states that it is also offering socially-distanced performances at apartment complexes and senior residences; these are usually longer and involve more musicians.
