Conductor Bramwell Tovey is the first guest interviewed in a new program entitled “The Everything Will Be Okay Podcast,” in which host Jenna Simeonov speaks with Canadian classical musicians who are sheltering at home during the coronavirus pandemic. Tovey is artistic director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and the Calgary Opera Company; Simeonov is creator of Canada’s classical music website Schmopera. In introducing the podcast, Simeonov writes, “Guys, Everything Will Be Okay. It’s just a pandemic that has closed the entire performing arts industry. Cancelled gigs & online opera are apparently the new normal, and singers just can’t help speaking moistly.” Topics in the episode with Tovey include the ABCs of shutting down an opera company in a pandemic, finding time for composing, and what it will take for live performances to come back.
