“Musicians from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will work with Interlochen students this summer as part of the Interlochen Online virtual Arts Camp program,” writes Amanda Sewell on Thursday (5/14) at Interlochen Public Radio (Michigan). “Following the DSO’s performance and residency in July 2019, the orchestra and Interlochen will collaborate again this summer…. Interlochen Online will take place between June 28 and July 19, 2020…. Musicians from the DSO will lead orchestral repertoire workshops for each instrument, perform virtual recitals and record movements of chamber music…. DSO management and education personnel will also present arts leadership discussions and workshops.… The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Interlochen Center for the Arts have had a close association since the 1920s. Ossip Gabrilowitsch, the DSO’s first music director, was also a guest conductor during the first summer of Interlochen Arts Camp in 1928. This partnership follows last month’s announcement that the 93rd season of Interlochen Arts Camp would take place online in a new initiative called Interlochen Online.” DSO Principal Timpani Jeremy Epp said, “Many DSO members found inspiration in the experiences they had while students at Interlochen, and we are excited to again have the opportunity to nurture a new generation of performers.”
