On May 24, California Symphony Music Director Donato Cabrera will host an online event featuring solo violinist Alexi Kenney, who will perform from his home in Palo Alto and speak with Cabrera, located in San Francisco. Kenney’s program of Piazzolla, Joe Hisaishi, Du Yun, Clara Schumann, Joni Mitchell, Schubert, Geminiani, Hildegard von Bingen, and J.S. Bach will be available to California Symphony donors as well as current subscribers and ticket holders. For more information, visit the California Symphony’s website. Cabrera is also music director of the Las Vegas Philharmonic, which is being featured in weekly 90-minute broadcasts of recent performances on Nevada Public Radio and streaming online at KNPR.org, through August 22, 2020. The schedule will include two newly recorded conversations with Cabrera and KNPR’s Dave Becker discussing music that would have been performed at the Philharmonic’s April 4 and May 9 concerts. In addition, Cabrera is continuing two independent online projects: The Music Plays On, a daily blog of commentary about his favorite performances and recordings; and MusicWise—Conversations about Art and Culture with Donato Cabrera, a weekly streamed Facebook and YouTube series of interviews with guests including Nancy Uscher, dean of College of Fine Arts at the University of Nevada Las Vegas; music historian Joseph Horowitz; violinist and actor Lucia Micarelli; and chefs James Trees and Giovanni Mauro.
