Lizzo and New York Philharmonic kick off virtual “Dear Class of 2020” commencement event

Now let’s turn it up!,’ the ‘Truth Hurts’ singer announced midway through the performance, during which … the New York Philharmonic accompanied her … Following Lizzo’s performance, ‘Dear Class of 2020’ continued with messages from Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake and The Simpsons, among others. More pop stars are expected to join Lizzo in performing for new grads.” In announcing “Dear Class of 2020,” YouTube said the event would “center around the timely themes of hope, resilience, and camaraderie, especially given the recent social justice movement.” The special included a welcome message from President and Mrs. Obama, and commencement addresses from Michelle Obama and Beyoncé. Additional commencement speakers announced include the Seoul-based K-pop band BTS, Lady Gaga, former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, CEO of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and human rights activist Malala Yousafzai.
