“Domingo Hindoyan has been announced as the new chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, starting in 2021,” writes Rosie Pentreath in Tuesday’s (6/9) Classic FM (U.K.) “The Venezuelan conductor will step into the post as Vasily Petrenko takes on the role of music director at Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London…. Hindoyan comes from the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra where he is currently principal guest conductor…. He has worked with many leading orchestras, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera and Vienna State Opera, as well as the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. He began his music studies as a violinist and learned in the El Sistema program in Venezuela before studying the violin and conducting at the Haute École de Musique de Genève. In 2013 he became first assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin.” Hindoyan says, “What excited me was not only the orchestra but the vibrant city of Liverpool and its historic connection with music and sports. An orchestra is a fundamental ambassador for the arts, and together our priorities will be to preserve the great heritage of the music we perform, welcome audiences … and build the future … with fruitful educational projects.”
