“The stage at Erie’s historic Warner Theatre may be dark, but musicians of the Erie Philharmonic are still working hard to keep music alive in Erie,” reads an unsigned Tuesday (6/9) article in ErieNewsNow (Erie, PA). “Erie Philharmonic Executive Director Steve Weiser said he received an email from the musicians on Friday saying they had raised over $2,000 to support the orchestra. ’It really took us by surprise,’ Weiser said. ‘In a time when concerts have come to a halt, this gesture of solidarity from our musicians is truly one of the most inspirational things we have ever witnessed as an organization.’ The musicians also sent a message to the Erie community to accompany the donations saying it is part of their commitment that the Erie Philharmonic will once again thrive after this unprecedentedly difficult time. The donations will help offset costs of small, live concerts throughout the summer as the orchestra looks to return to the stage. While an opening date cannot be set at this time, the orchestra is committed to opening for a full 2020-2021 season.”
