“On June 20 Classical Movements, the Virginia-based [performing arts] touring company, will present a day of concerts designed for the era of pandemic,” writes Sarah Shay in Friday’s (6/12) Musical America (subscription required). “ ‘Sounds of Hope & Harmony’ will feature two one-hour-long programs, each performed three times, at 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm, and at 5pm, 6:30pm, and 8pm respectively. The venue is the garden in the rectory of historic Christ Church (1785) in Alexandria, site of Classical Movements’ office, and attendees will be required to wear face coverings and stand at least six feet apart per person or small household group. Tickets and programs will be distributed digitally. Classical Movements Founder and President Neeta Helms has characterized ‘Sounds of Hope & Harmony’ as ‘an important gesture of support and optimism, both to local musicians and orchestras and to our community as a whole.’ Performers will include members of the National Symphony, Alexandria Symphony, New Orchestra of Washington, Fairfax Symphony, and several other local ensembles. The morning program will include works by a potpourri of composers ranging from John Williams to Franz Schubert. The evening program features works by, among others, Mozart, Shostakovich, Astor Piazzolla, Poulenc, Schubert, Handel, and Bizet.”
