“All summer long starting July 2nd and ending in early September you will have a chance to catch a performance of the Binghamton Philharmonic on the streets of the Binghamton area,” writes Ethan Timms on Friday (7/3) at WICZ-TV (Binghamton, N.Y.). “These performances will be staged at public parks and school meal pick-up spots but will have no notice of where and when they will [occur]. As part of the COVID-19 pandemic, concerts have been suspended or canceled all summer long, but the Philharmonic wants to make sure that people still can enjoy some live music. The performances cannot be announced ahead of time due to New York State’s reopening strategy, but yesterday’s first performance in Otsiningo Park proved that word of mouth is strong enough. If you are lucky enough to catch a performance by the traveling philharmonic you can ask for a voucher for a free ticket for one of their upcoming performances later this fall, once concerts are allowed again.” In a press release, BPO Executive Director Paul Cienniwa says, “By bringing BPO musicians into the community this summer, we can build bridges, reach outside of our box, and create musical connections for children and adults.”
