“Who needs drive-in movie theaters when you can experience drive-in concerts?” writes JP Karwacki in Friday’s (7/10) TimeOut Montreal (Canada). “Montrealers have a new reason to wear their best, climb into the car and experience some culture with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra: They’ll be taking to an open-air stage called Classical Flight at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport on August 5 for 550 cars…. The stage in YUL Montreal-Trudeau Airport’s Parking lot P-5 will be visible from wherever guests park with large screens to broadcast the performances, as well as FM radio broadcasting to ensure the music can be heard over the possibility of airplanes landing…. That night, Montrealers can watch as [guest conductor] Jacques Lacombe guides the orchestra in playing Beethoven’s famous 5th Symphony … as well as Le tombeau de Couperin by Ravel and excerpts from Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni. Tickets go from $100 at the cheapest, up to ‘Business Class’ tickets at $250 and ‘First Class’ tickets at $500…. This is considered a benefit concert.”
