Recent performances by the El Paso Symphony Orchestra in Texas are being broadcast on Thursday evenings through August 6 on El Paso-based radio station KTEP 88.5 FM. The series began on July 9 with Music Director Bohuslav Rattay leading the orchestra in Handel’s Royal Fireworks Overture, Brahms’s Symphony No. 1, and Rodrigo’s Concierto Andaluz with the Università Guitar Quartet (Hiram Rodriguez, Martin Espinoza, Jesus Manuel Flores, Daniel Monroy). Broadcasts include interviews with the guest soloists and conductor. The second program on July 16 featured Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7 (“Leningrad”) and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with violinist Yevgeny Kutik, and continues on July 23 and 30 with music by Dvořák, Holst, Saint-Saëns, Richard Strauss, Tchaikovsky, and John Williams. The concluding broadcast on August 6 will feature the orchestra in a program of opera arias with soprano Heather Dials, mezzo-soprano Cherry Duke, tenor Paul Groves, and the UTEP Choral Union.
