Pennsylvania’s Allentown Symphony Orchestra will offer a series of online composer workshops beginning July 28 and continuing on August 4, 11, and 13. Chris Rogerson, the orchestra’s composer in residence, will lead the sessions, with topics including orchestration, music analysis, music notation, career guidance, and writing music for films, documentaries, and video games. Participants must register and pay a fee in advance. Workshops will include opportunities for composers to share works through open forums. Among the guest presenters are ASO Music Director Diane Wittry; Bill Holab, owner of Bill Holab Music; Astrid Baumgardner, who heads the Yale University School of Music’s Office of Career Strategies; double-bassist Mary Javian, chair of career studies at Curtis Institute of Music; Cia Toscanini, vice president of concert music at ASCAP; Deirdre Chadwick, executive director, BMI Classical; and composers Viet Cuong, David Cutler, Amanda Harberg, Roger Neill, Garth Neustadter, Tommy Tallarico.
