The San Diego Youth Symphony has announced that it will begin the 2020-21 year with virtual classes to protect students and staff. In place of traditional concerts, the organization will use technology to conduct online ensemble and enrichment classes. This season is SDYS’s 75th anniversary year; it will release a birthday video on September 6, and there will be an online celebration in November. In-person operations will resume by January 2021, to include collaborations, outdoor performances, a celebration for Music Director Jeff Edmons’s 25th anniversary, a season-ending celebration in June 2021, and the return of the International Youth Symphony program and summer classes. This past spring, SDYS transitioned all its programs online; it canceled its 2020 summer classes and annual International Youth Symphony program.
