In Saratoga Springs, New York on August 22, the Saratoga Shakespeare Company will present the audio premiere of Testament, an audio play written by Damian Lanigan and co-produced with the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in association with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Testament is a portrait of Ludwig van Beethoven as he grapples with hearing loss and writes his “Eroica” Symphony. Part of the arts center’s Beethoven 2020 celebration and originally planned as a live performance, the presentation features recordings from the Philadelphia Orchestra; period instrumentation that re-creates the sound of a fortepiano, the instrument that Beethoven would have played; and appearances by professional actors including several students and alumni from Skidmore College. The performance will be available to stream online for free on both Saratoga Shakespeare Company’s and Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s websites from August 22 at 8 p.m. until 11:59 p.m. on August 23.
