“The Rhode Island Philharmonic will begin its 2020-21 season with an online performance Saturday at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, available to subscribers only, and plans to begin welcoming audiences back to the Vets in October,” reads an unsigned article in Wednesday’s (9/23) Providence Journal (RI). David Robertson stepped in to guest conduct the September 26 concert after Artistic Director Bramwell Tovey had to withdraw due to Canadian travel restrictions. “On Oct. 17, the orchestra is scheduled to perform at The Vets before up to 125 sponsors, donors and other guests, which is the allowed limit for indoor events under the state’s Phase 3 guidelines. Additional performances scheduled in the first half of the philharmonic’s season—on Nov. 14 and 21; Dec. 5 and 12; Jan. 9, 23 and 30; and Feb. 20—will be open to subscribers, with a capacity limit of 125. These performances … will be live-streamed [for subscribers] in high-definition audio and video.… Seating at the Vets will be socially distanced…. The second half of the philharmonic season will run from March to June, with details still to come…. The season is taking place under the terms of a tentative one-year contract between the philharmonic and the musicians union.”
