“We are back!” writes Jacksonville Symphony President and CEO Steven Libman in Sunday’s (9/27) Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville). “After canceling more than 30 concerts between March and June, the Jacksonville Symphony has returned to the stage of Jacoby Symphony Hall. On Sept. 16 and 17, we welcomed the community back with two free open house concerts, and 500 people joined us each evening.… Another 500 people … have attended ‘Fanfare!’—our official opening night for the 2020-21 season.… Returning to the stage means that some semblance of normalcy is returning.… Our musicians can resume rehearsals and performances, and our administrative, production and artistic staffs can focus their energies on creating a magical experience.… But not everything will be the same. We have created strict new safety guidelines that are necessary to ensure the safety of our patrons, staff and musicians…. We are requiring everyone to undergo a temperature check and wear a mask.… We … created a new, safe physical distancing seating configuration that reduced seating capacity from 1,800 to 582.… All staff, musicians and stagehands have taken a 10% pay reduction.… As we launch our season, we remember the positive value we bring to the Jacksonville community through the presentation of live music.”
